Hobby Center for the Performing Arts
The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts located in Downtown Houston, Texas is a state-of-the-art entertainment complex. Since opening in May 2002, this incredible venue has provided thousands of theater connoisseurs the ultimate experience in live entertainment and musical talent that abounds. Designed by Robert A. M. Stern, this $102 million dollar complex has two acoustically distinguished theaters - Sarofim Hall and Zilkha Hall, Michael Cordua's Artista restaurant and an 800-car above ground parking garage.
The Grand Lobby – rising three stories provides patrons a contemporary transcendental open feel that highlights the cultural diversity the City of Houston is respected for. Large open glass windows and steel columns rising to architectural pleasing pitched roof accent the golden leafed ceiling and artistic panorama. Adding to this brilliance of this contemporary design are American painter Sol LeWitt and British sculptor Tony Cragg who have created elegant harmony with LeWitt’s colorful mural masterpiece in the Grand Lobby while Tony Cragg’s two-part bronze imposing “In Minds Mimics” statue seems to guard as it towers in front of the Hines Plaza.
